WHAT TO GIVE TO THE GREATEST GIVER

"What shall I render to Yahweh for all His benefits toward me?" (Psalm 116: 12)

Psalm 116 is a poem.  The writer is reflecting on his life, the blessed part, as well as, the severe times… all the failures, losses and sorrows along the way of his life.

Psalm 116 was a moment, no doubt, of a stretch of time where the writer is enjoying the favor of the LORD.  He feels compelled to find the proper words to express his gratitude to YAHWEH.

While efforts were made, to no avail, to find the name of the writer of this Psalm, it is included in the Bible, and gives life to those who read it.

The verses below expose the writer’s experience:

· “He hears my voice and my supplications" (Verse lb)

· The writer exposes his total need "O YAHWEH, I plead YOU, deliver my soul" (Verse 4c)

· "Was brought low and He saved me" (Verse 6b).

· The writer was about to die and "For you delivered my soul from death" (Verse 8a)

· "My eyes from tears” (Verse 8b)

· "My feet from falling" (Verse 8c)

These were some of the things God had done for this psalmist personally.

This is the reason that the writer opens the poem with "I love Yahweh".  Perhaps one of the festivals of Israel was coming up and he wanted to take the opportunity to honor the LORD in a personal and special way.  That is why the writer pondered the question in his mind, "What shall I render to Yahweh", David had already written "For You (LORD) delight not in sacrifices, else I would give it" (Psalm 51:16a)—What to give to the One who has given you everything.

The psalmist came to the conclusion that the best thing he could give, would be to go to the Temple, and, in the presence of the people, there GIVE to the Lord all praise, worship, and thanksgiving that He alone is worthy of.  I will take " The Cup of Salvation", Salvation of the Lord tells of complete favor for us. The offer of "Bless Yahweh O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His Holy Name" (Psalm 103: 1)

The first verse of the poem, "I love Yahweh" (Psalm 116:la), this is a great position "Love for The Lord".  For all the benefits received, this man wants to "render”, he wanted to GIVE to the One who had given him everything, especially the real value of life.  Salvation. Blessings in Christ.
